Our Chicken of Guadalupe print

$25.00

(Found Objects) I lost my dear friend Mark Cox at the end of 2022. We met in 1992 while both working at Marvel UK — I was in sales, Mark was the head designer. He taught me how to work with designers, and we worked together consistently over our 30-year friendship.

This print is a piece he did for me for an ebook that never came to fruition. The art is based on a beautiful street stencil of Our Lady of Guadalupe that I saw on my first trip to Oaxaca, in 2008. And that trip itself was in part inspired by Mark: When I discovered I was gluten-intolerant, I went looking for something delicious I could drink that wasn’t craft beer. Mark suggested we attend one of Ron Cooper’s Del Maguey tastings at Binny’s in Chicago.

Without Mark’s instigation, maybe I never find Mezcal. Maybe I never visit Mexico. Maybe I never start SACRED. I’m forever indebted to Mark, for this introduction and so much more.

CHema Skandal! arranged for these 100 screen-prints to be made of this image from my friend, and I’m offering 20 of them here. I paid for the prints out of my own pocket, so 100% of your contribution of $25 will go to SACRED programs.

The print measures 8.25” tall by 5.5” wide.
