Maybe you've heard of the Superpower Dilemma - it's been making the rounds of Psychology Today, Forbes, and "This American Life." The idea is, you get to choose a superpower. The catch is, you can only choose between flight or invisibility.
I think most of us, what we'd really choose if we could is a power that can protect ourselves and our loved ones. That's certainly what Daniel was looking for, to protect himself and his 8-year-old sister - protect her from an abusive father, one who works for the wrong kind of people.
Daniel gets that wish one stormy night, when those wrong kind of people show up at their house. Daniel gets his sister to the agave fields behind their house - the ones his grandfather tends to make his mezcal. But like most things we wish for, Daniel finds out he should have been more careful.
