Fun ways to support SACRED…

We’re so grateful to our many partners who find fun, creative, delicious ways to support the work being done by mezcalerxs in rural Mexico! Here are a few that are on now:

Maestro Ale from is/was

There’s a 24,000-acre ranch of wild desert in northern Mexico, near Mapimi, Durango. That beautiful land is home to wild boar, puma, and more, including the endangered Bolson tortoise. It’s also home to 39 species of cacti, scrubs, and desert grasslands — and Lamparillo agave and sotol. Sergio Garnier at Ultramundo has been using the agave to make Mezcal. He’ll be using the sotol to make … well, sotol. We snuck in before he could do that to swipe 200 pounds of the cooked succulents to make this beer.

This beer was brewed using aged hops to allow the naturally occurring microflora of Zona del Silencio to express itself. This results in a wonderfully unique beer with notes of sultanas, serrano peppers, tanned leather, honeysuckle, bruleed banana, prunes, grilled pineapple, a hint of smoke, and a deft touch of acidity on the finish.

A portion of sales will be donated to S.A.C.R.E.D. to replant agave. To get your beer, click here. Thanks!

Wake up to SACRED

Our friends at Dark Matter have released Ancestral Ideas coffee to help fundraise for SACRED. The coffee in this bag is from a cooperative in Chiapas called Unión Majomut. Dark Matter, who has for years been looking for consistent, reliable relationships with coffee producers in Mexico, started working with this co-op last year in hopes that it could blossom into a long-term relationship. Unión Majomut work with hundreds of small producers, with farms ranging from half a hectare to five hectares. They help these families find stability in cultivation and bring their coffee to market. The co-op’s strategies include consistent annual purchasing with stable pricing and assistance in farming practices including access to compost, quality control, disseminating organic methods for pest control, and working with them to improve fermentation methods and cup quality. While this relationship with Unión Majomut is young, Dark Matter hopes to continue growing together for years to come! Grab a bag of Ancestral Ideas to taste why!

Rare spirits on a boat

La Barca Cantina is New York City’s most agave-friendly river boat! It tours the Hudson every Thursday through Sunday offering the sites of NYC alongside tacos, Tequila, and Mezcal! When you take a ride this season, through October, you’ll be able to purchase a special flight that supports our campaign to fund the build-out of a library/classroom to help preserve the at-risk language Ixcatec!
