Mini Tecuan fighter masks
Mini Tecuan fighter masks
$35.00
(Found Objects) When my friends Damian and Raquel of El Tigre came to Chicago this past summer to participate in the Copitas de Sol fundraiser at the National Museum of Mexican Art, they came bearing some beautiful items — the agave spirits they export, of course, but also these beautiful, “Barbie”-sized ritual Tecuan fighter masks. I scooped them up.
Samuel Gloria crafts these mini masks, a reflection of the full-sized ones he makes for the seasonal rain ceremony of the Nahau community of Actlán, Guerrero, known as Atsatsilistli. Each is about 2” tall by 2” wide.
