José Guadalupe Posada (1851–1913) was a Mexican illustrator whose work has come to define his country during the era he lived. This is an illustration from one of the many broadsides (news sheets) he decorated for publisher Antonio Vanegas Arroyo, blown up to almost three-feet wide and reproduced as a silkscreen print. It’s one of a series of three depicting a news story wherein the Virgin of Guadalupe was seen in an agave.
