(Found Objects) I am endlessly amazed by the artistry I see in Mexico. One of the first non-liquid forms of art that spoke to me is the etchings made on jicaras in Oaxaca. I think it was in 2011 that I first met the artists making these. I imagined one of them doing an etched comic book, maybe on vinyl the way you might to make prints. So I commissioned one to custom make for me a jicara showing Batman fighting a giant hummingbird. I figured I could pass that over to a friend at DC Comics who scouted new talent. What I got back was this jicara, which didn’t really demonstrate the storytelling I needed to sell him. But makes for a beautiful jicara! Measures about 6.5” in diameter and about 3.5” deep.
